  • Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom teeth are the large teeth in the very back of your mouth that grow in during your late teens or early twenties. Not everyone gets wisdom teeth, but most people will get four in total. Sometimes wisdom teeth grow in straight, but sometimes they can cause problems. Wisdom Teeth Removal in East Longmeadow, MAYour dentist might recommend removing wisdom teeth if they are decayed, or are causing pain, infected, or crowding. It is often best to be proactive when it comes to wisdom teeth – removing them before any problems may occur. Recovery from wisdom teeth extraction usually takes about 4 to 7 days. If the tooth is under the gum, then healing may take longer. We can help you decide if wisdom teeth removal is something you or your loved one should have done. It is best to do so sooner rather than later. If you or someone you love is in pain due to an impacted wisdom tooth, contact East Longmeadow Family Dental Center today and let Dr. Gregory Zarikian’s experience work for you.

  • Dental Fillings

In the United States, 90% of adults aged 20 and over have had at least one cavity. Dental fillings are the most common way to treat and protect a tooth with a cavity. At East Longmeadow Family Dental Center, Gregory Zirakian, DMD, offers composite dental fillings to prevent further tooth decay. What Are Dental Fillings? Dental fillings are materials that dentists use to repair and restore teeth, especially those that have cavities. A cavity is a hole that develops in a tooth because of decay. Cavities occur when the acids in your mouth break down your tooth’s enamel (the hard outer layer), allowing bacteria to enter the tooth. Anyone can get a cavity, although following good oral hygiene habits and getting regular professional dental cleanings can help prevent them. Enamel decay does not usually cause any symptoms, but you can start experiencing some discomfort as the decay reaches the tooth’s dentin and pulp. The symptoms of a cavity can include: Toothache Sensitivity to cold or hot substances Bad breath An unpleasant taste in your mouth Bleeding gums Facial swelling Once you have a cavity, removing the infected pulp can prevent further damage, but that removal leaves a gap in your tooth. Specialized dental materials are used to fill that gap. Dental fillings can also be used to repair broken or cracked teeth, as well as teeth that have worn down because of misuse. At East Longmeadow Family Dental Center, Dr. Zirakian offers composite resin dental fillings, which are durable materials made of a polymer mixed with quartz or glass. Benefits of Composite Resin Dental Fillings Composite resin fillings provide a natural, tooth-colored look designed to match the rest of the tooth. These fillings might not require as much drilling as other types of fillings. With amalgam fillings, for example, a large amount of your natural and healthy tooth has to be removed along with the decayed sections. Removing so much of the tooth can leave it weaker. Because composite dental fillings require the removal of only a small amount of healthy tooth material, you will have a stronger overall tooth. Composite resin dental fillings bond to your existing tooth, helping to prevent cracks from forming. They also harden in seconds. Dr. Zirakian will use a special light to set and harden the fillings, which takes very little time. Amalgam fillings can cause more tooth sensitivity issues than composite resin fillings. This is because the resin helps insulate the tooth against cold and hot temperatures. Composite dental fillings can also be repaired, which is not the case with some other types of dental fillings. Instead of having to get rid of the entire filling and reapply it if it cracks or otherwise gets damaged, Dr. Zirakian can repair the filling. The Dental Fillings Procedure If you have a cavity, scheduling a free consultation with Dr. Gregory Zirakian is the first step in getting the help you need. Dr. Zirakian will assess the cavity as well as your overall oral health in order to recommend the right treatment. Tell him about any medical conditions you have, the medications you take, and your normal oral hygiene routine. Before he works on the tooth, Dr. Zirakian will numb the area with a topical anesthetic. If you have dental anxieties, you can also request sedation. Once you are comfortable, Dr. Zirakian will remove the decayed part of the tooth, testing the area to ensure that he gets rid of all of the decay. He will then clean the space created in your tooth, disinfecting it and removing the debris. If the decay has gotten close to the root, he may place a layer of composite resin at the base of it to protect the nerve. Dr. Zirakian will then place the tooth-colored composite resin one layer at a time, using the special light to dry it as he works. Once Dr. Zirakian places the filling, he will polish it and make sure it feels comfortable in your mouth.

  • Gum Disease Treatment

In the United States, 47% of all adults have some form of gum disease. Gum disease can harm your oral health, but it can also affect your overall well-being and cause serious health problems. If you have gum disease, Gregory Zirakian, DMD, at East Longmeadow Family Dental Center Center can help. Contact us today for a free consultation to see if gum disease treatment is right for you. What Is Gum Disease? Gum disease, also called periodontal disease, refers to the inflammation and infection of your gums along with the bone that supports your teeth. Some of the most common symptoms of gum disease include: Bleeding gums Pain when chewing Purplish or reddish gums Bad breath Soreness Gum recession Loose teeth Changes in how your teeth fit together There are four main stages of gum disease. The first stage is gingivitis, which begins with puffy and red gums that may bleed when you brush or floss your teeth. At this stage, there is no bone loss, so the problem is reversible with the right gum disease treatment. The second stage of gum disease is mild periodontitis. At this stage, bacteria have made their way under your gums and are starting to affect the supporting jawbone. You may notice your gums pulling away from your teeth, creating pockets. These pockets are hard to reach, even with a toothbrush, allowing more bacteria to collect in the area. Moderate periodontitis is the next stage. Bacteria begin to erode your ligaments, bones, and soft tissues. You may see pus along your gumline, and you may notice you have bad breath. At this stage, you can also start to feel pain. The last stage is advanced periodontitis. The bone loss gets worse, leading to your teeth becoming looser. They may eventually fall out. If you have already begun to lose bone, you may need a more complex gum disease treatment, like gum surgery.

  • Root Canal Therapy

Each year, dentists perform 15 million root canals in the United States. Root canal therapy can preserve a damaged tooth and prevent serious oral health issues that might stem from an untreated infection. If you have pain or inflammation and suspect a tooth infection, schedule a free root canal therapy consultation with Gregory Zirakian, DMD, at East Longmeadow Family Dental Center. What Is Root Canal Therapy? Root canal therapy is a procedure that aims to eliminate bacteria from the canals inside a tooth, saving the natural tooth and preventing further reinfection. During this procedure, Dr. Zirakian removes the tooth’s inflamed pulp and then cleans and disinfects the surfaces inside the tooth. This procedure can relieve pain caused by an abscessed or infected tooth. The most common symptoms of an infection that requires root canal therapy are: Persistent tooth pain Swollen gums Sensitivity to heat and cold Chipped or cracked tooth Pimple on the gums Tooth discoloration Swollen gums Loose tooth Root canal therapy is necessary when bacteria affect the pulp inside your tooth. This often happens when a cavity is left untreated for a long time. Benefits of Root Canal Therapy Root canal therapy can help you avoid tooth extraction. A tooth extraction can lead to changes in the way the rest of your teeth are structured because they rely on one another to stay in place. Losing a tooth can even affect your jawbone, leading to bone loss because you no longer have a tooth’s root to stimulate bone growth. Getting a root canal can also prevent the spread of infection because bacteria that infect the tooth’s pulp can easily spread to other teeth, as well as to the gums. A root canal eliminates the damaged pulp, removing the bacteria. Root canal therapy is also a quick process, allowing you to get relief from discomfort in just one appointment. It is also generally more affordable than dental implants or a dental bridge. And if you opt to extract the tooth and then replace it with dental implants or a dental bridge, you can expect to wait weeks to get the final results. Finally, root canal therapy can help you retain your natural smile. The goal of a root canal is to save your tooth, not replace it.

  • General Dentistry

Each year, around 65.5% of adults between the ages of 18 and 64 have at least one dental visit. Most people turn to a dentist for general dentistry services, including preventive care and tooth extractions. At East Longmeadow Family Dental Center, Gregory Zirakian, DMD, offers general dentistry services to help you maintain your oral health. What Is General Dentistry? General dentistry is a branch of dentistry that includes a range of services that help you maintain good oral health. For most dental practices, these include: Preventive care Gum disease treatment Tooth extractions Fillings Root canals The first step in getting help is to schedule a free consultation by contacting our office. General Dentistry Services at East Longmeadow Family Dental Center At East Longmeadow Family Dental Center, Dr. Zirakian provides many general dentistry services. Exams and Cleanings Regular exams allow Dr. Zirakian to catch emerging oral health issues before they get worse. He performs diagnostic imaging with state-of-the-art CBCT X-rays, as well as thorough inspections of your mouth, teeth, gums, head, neck, and jaws. During these exams, he’ll look for signs of cavities, gum disease, and even oral cancer. Dr. Zirakian recommends getting regular exams every six months. Professional teeth cleanings are another crucial part of preventive care. These services help remove plaque and tartar that can lead to tooth decay. Our dental hygienist will perform professional flossing, as well, and apply a fluoride treatment that can help fight against cavities for months. Gum Disease Treatment Gum disease is a serious concern that can cause tooth loss and even affect your overall health. For many people, gum disease is painless, so the only way to catch it or stop its progression is to turn to professionals. The most common cause of gum disease is poor brushing and flossing habits, which allow plaque to build up on your teeth and harden into tartar. Once tartar forms, only a professional can remove it. The first signs of gum disease include red and swollen gums, which can then progress to pain in the bones and even tooth loss if the disease is not treated in time. Dr. Zirakian will first perform a gum examination and measure pockets around the teeth using a probe. He can then take X-rays of your jaws and teeth to determine the best treatments. Tooth Extractions Tooth extractions are procedures that remove a tooth completely from its socket. A tooth extraction may be necessary if you have: A fractured tooth Severe tooth decay Crowded teeth An impacted tooth Severe gum disease To perform the tooth extraction, Dr. Zirakian applies local anesthesia, giving you the option of sedation if you have dental anxieties, and then maneuvers the tooth until it comes away from the socket. He will then clean the socket and may add bone grafting material to prevent bone loss. The procedure only takes a few minutes.

  • Tooth Extractions

One in four adults in the United States has untreated cavities. Cavities that do not get treated in time can worsen, leading to severe tooth decay — one of the most common reasons for tooth extractions. However, cavities are not the only reason for tooth extractions. Sometimes, an extraction is the only solution to overcrowded teeth, gum disease, or damage from an accident. If you think you need a tooth extraction, Gregory Zirakian, DMD, at East Longmeadow Family Dental Center can help. What Are Tooth Extractions? A tooth extraction is a dental procedure that involves removing a tooth from its socket. Although it is usually better to save damaged teeth with procedures like fillings and dental crowns, there are instances when it is necessary to perform an extraction. A tooth extraction can be necessary if you have: Severe tooth decay An impacted tooth A broken tooth Crowded teeth Dental injuries Severe gum disease Tooth extractions can also be necessary if you have issues with your wisdom teeth. If you need implant-retained dentures or an implant-supported dental bridge, it may also be necessary to extract one or more teeth. The most common signs that a tooth is damaged enough to require extraction include: Severe tooth pain Swollen gums Jaw pain or stiffness Pain that worsens when chewing Although no one likes the idea of losing a tooth, tooth extractions can offer benefits. If you have severe decay, removing the tooth can remove all of the bacteria from the area, preventing further issues. An extraction can also alleviate tooth pain immediately. Tooth Extractions: What to Expect If you suspect you may need a tooth extraction, turn to Dr. Zirakian for a free consultation. During this appointment, he will examine your mouth to see the condition of the tooth. He will also ask you about your medical history, whether you take medications, your family history of oral health, and your oral hygiene routine. X-rays will likely be taken so that Dr. Zirakian can clearly see the extent of the problem, especially if there is any worry about your jawbone being affected. If you have dental anxieties, you can ask about sedation dentistry options during your extraction, including intravenous sedation. At the consultation, Dr. Zirakian will also discuss the costs of the procedure and let you know the available payment options. We offer payment plans that will work with any budget because we don’t want you to delay getting the treatment you need.

  • Teeth Whitening

In the United States, 74% of adults believe an unattractive smile can negatively affect a person’s chances of career success. One of the most important aspects of a smile is its brightness, which can be a concern for many people as they get older. If you are worried about stains or discoloration, you can turn to the teeth whitening services of Gregory Zirakian, DMD, at East Longmeadow Family Dental Center. What Causes Stained Teeth? There are different kinds of stains. Some are age-related, and others are extrinsic or intrinsic. Extrinsic stains are those that affect the surface of the enamel. The enamel is the hardest part of the tooth, but it also comes into contact with everything you consume, from foods and drinks to tobacco. Over time, residue can build up, and the enamel absorbs it. Some of the most common substances that can cause stains include: Sodas Coffee Fruit juices Berries Tea Red wine Tobacco Starchy foods like potatoes and pasta can also cause stains. Intrinsic stains occur when dentin, the layer under the enamel, becomes stained. These stains can occur with excess fluoride consumption during the formation of the enamel. Tooth decay can also cause them, as can certain medications. Age can affect your teeth’s color, too, because the enamel wears down as the years pass, allowing more of the dentin to show. What to Know About Teeth Whitening Teeth whitening includes a range of treatments that make your teeth brighter and whiter. Although there are over-the-counter options for teeth whitening, turning to professionals for help will offer more reliable results. Whitening treatments are generally not permanent, although some last longer than others. There are four main types of teeth whitening treatments: In-office bleaching Whitening trays Whitening strips Whitening toothpastes In-office bleaching is one of the most effective treatments. You’ll undergo the entire process at our dental office. It might take more than one session, and your teeth will likely feel a little sensitive for a few days. Whitening trays use peroxide gels that you can apply at home. The best types of whitening trays are custom-fitted to your teeth. We offer customized take-home whitening trays at East Longmeadow Family Dental Center. These trays provide professional-level whitening that you can carry out in the comfort of your home. While whitening strips are readily available and cost-effective, they do not provide the level of whitening that professional bleaching and trays offer. The same applies to whitening toothpastes, which contain abrasives that can help remove some stains but do not effectively whiten your teeth. Not everyone is a candidate for teeth whitening. If you have veneers or dental implants, you should not get this procedure.

  • Dental Bonding

Cracked and chipped teeth are common, with up to 70% of adults in the United States having at least one damaged tooth. Although there are many options available for the treatment of chipped teeth, one of the most affordable is turning to dental bonding. Having concerns about how your smile looks can make you feel less confident. But with dental bonding at East Longmeadow Family Dental Center, you can regain that confidence and feel comfortable sharing your smile with the world. What Is Dental Bonding? Dental bonding is a cosmetic dental procedure that uses a tooth-colored composite resin to correct issues with your smile. The resin is the same as that used during restorative dental procedures. Dental bonding can help: Camouflage tooth discolorations Conceal cracks and chips Make your teeth appear longer Close gaps between your teeth Change the shape of your teeth Dental bonding is best suited for minor tooth problems and not for teeth that have suffered severe decay. Dental Bonding vs. Veneers Porcelain veneers are shells that adhere to the front surface of your teeth. Placing them requires removing some of the enamel. Once they are in place, veneers are also not removable, though you will have to replace them every 10 or 20 years. Dental bonding is reversible because it does not require enamel removal. In some instances, you can get resin on the entire surface of the tooth in a way that functions similarly to a veneer. Benefits of Dental Bonding At East Longmeadow Family Dental Center, Dr. Gregory Zirakian recommends dental bonding for patients looking for a quick and affordable option to correct their cosmetic smile concerns. Dental bonding is a less expensive procedure than most other cosmetic dental options. It is also faster, allowing you to get results in just one appointment. Other options, like veneers or crowns, require multiple dental visits. Additionally, the dental bonding procedure is minimally invasive. With crowns and veneers, Dr. Zirakian would have to remove some of the enamel from your tooth, but that is not necessary with dental bonding. Dental bonding is also versatile, capable of correcting a range of cosmetic dental issues. And because it can help with cracks and chips that can retain food particles and attract bacteria, dental bonding can also reduce the chances of developing tooth decay. After the Procedure Another benefit of dental bonding is the minimal aftercare required after the procedure. You don’t have to worry about many limitations to the foods you can eat, as you would with dental crowns. Dental bonding is also long-lasting. If you maintain good oral hygiene, you might be able to enjoy the bonding for 10 years without needing to replace it. Dental bonding offers natural results as well. Because the resin closely matches the color of your teeth, you don’t have to be concerned about anyone noticing that you have had the procedure done.

  • Dental Veneers

More than one-third of American adults are unhappy with their smiles. Discolored teeth, uneven gaps between teeth, and even chipped teeth can all make you self-conscious, leading you to hesitate before smiling. To help you perfect your smile, Dr. Gregory Zirakian at East Longmeadow Family Dental Center offers dental veneers. Porcelain veneers can restore your beautiful smile and come with a range of benefits. What Are Dental Veneers? Dental veneers are a cosmetic dental treatment that involves placing custom-made shells over the surface of your teeth. The two most common veneer materials are porcelain and tooth-colored composite. Dental veneers can help conceal dental imperfections like: Chips Stains Cracks Gaps They can also help conceal teeth that are too small or misshapen, allowing you to get an even set of teeth that enhances your smile. To be a good candidate for veneers, you must not have oral health issues like gum disease or extensive cavities. Dental veneers do not help treat these issues and do not protect your teeth from further decay, so treating cavities before getting a cosmetic procedure is important. At East Longmeadow Family Dental Center, you can get porcelain veneers to improve your smile. Dental Veneers vs. Dental Crowns Dental veneers fit over just the front surface of the tooth, while dental crowns are like a cap that the tooth wears. Because crowns have to fit over the tooth, a dentist needs to remove more enamel from the tooth to ensure the crown fits. This means a longer procedure and more chances of developing tooth sensitivities than you would experience with dental veneers. Dental veneers are cosmetic options, while dental crowns can strengthen the tooth and protect it from decay. Benefits of Dental Veneers Dental veneers look and feel natural. You don’t have to worry about not being able to speak or eat normally, or you won’t have to be concerned about feeling any discomfort throughout the day. You can expect to forget you even have porcelain veneers. They look and feel so natural because they are custom-made to fit your teeth perfectly. And dental veneers, especially those made of porcelain, do not require much enamel removal. Other options, like crowns or dental bridges, require much more enamel removal, which is permanent. Additionally, the process of placing dental veneers is minimally invasive, with many people not needing anesthesia. Dental veneers are also low maintenance. You don’t have to use special products or do much more than what you already do to keep your natural teeth healthy. Veneers resist stains better than your natural teeth. With the proper care, they can last anywhere from 10 to 15 years. Getting Dental Veneers If you want to improve your smile, you can reach out to Dr. Zirakian for a free consultation. At your appointment, he can assess your oral health to see if you are a good candidate for dental veneers. Tell him about your oral hygiene routine. He will walk you through the costs of the veneers and the payment options you have if your health insurance doesn’t cover the procedure. We offer flexible financing options and payment plans and can work with any budget.

  • Cosmetic Dentistry

Your smile is one of the first things that people notice in both social and business settings, so having a beautiful one is something to strive for. Unfortunately, close to 34% of all Americans dislike their smiles. Cosmetic dentistry procedures can help you achieve a smile you’ll be proud to show off. We offer a range of personalized cosmetic dentistry services at East Longmeadow Family Dental Center. What Is Cosmetic Dentistry? Cosmetic Dentistry in East Longmeadow, MACosmetic dentistry is a branch of dentistry that is dedicated to improving the appearance of your smile. People who benefit from cosmetic dentistry procedures include those who have: Gaps between their teeth Uneven teeth Misshapen teeth Cracked or chipped teeth Discolored teeth The best candidates for cosmetic dental procedures include people who are free of oral diseases like cavities and gum issues. Cosmetic Dentistry Services at East Longmeadow Family Dental Center At East Longmeadow Family Dental Center, Gregory Zirakian, DMD, offers advanced cosmetic dentistry services. Crown and Bridge If you are missing one or more teeth between healthy teeth, you can get your beautiful smile back with a crown and dental bridge procedure. Crowns are caps that fit over your teeth. They are frequently used to cover imperfections, but they can also provide support for a traditional dental bridge. At East Longmeadow Family Dental Center, we offer natural-looking porcelain crowns. A traditional crown and bridge procedure uses at least two crowns, one on each side of the gap the missing tooth or teeth have created. The best candidates for this cosmetic dentistry procedure include people who: Are missing one or more teeth Have damaged teeth Have healthy gums Follow good oral hygiene practices To prepare the teeth to receive the crowns, Dr. Zirakian has to remove some of their enamel. He can then cement the crowns in place to secure the false tooth. Crowns and bridges can last for up to 15 years if you follow good oral hygiene practices and set up regular appointments with Dr. Zirakian. Teeth Whitening Over time, drinks and substances like red wine, coffee, tobacco, and soda can stain your teeth. Cosmetic dentistry offers the chance to fade or even eliminate those stains with several procedures. At East Longmeadow Family Dental Center, Dr. Zirakian uses trays with special bleaching solutions to whiten your smile. You will need two visits for this type of procedure. During the first appointment, Dr. Zirakian will make molds of your teeth so the lab can create trays that will fit your mouth. At your second appointment, you will try the trays, and Dr. Zirakian will make any necessary adjustments. You can wear the trays with a whitening solution at home for 30 minutes twice a day, or you can wear them throughout the night. The length of the treatment will depend on the level of staining your teeth have. Teeth whitening is not a permanent procedure, so you will have to repeat it to maintain the tooth color you want. You can help the process by reducing your intake of drinks like coffee or red wine.

  • Dental Bridges

About 178 million adults in the United States have at least one missing tooth. Missing a tooth can cause alignment problems and jawbone loss and can affect your appearance, so getting prompt treatment is vital. One of the most popular ways to replace a missing tooth is a dental bridge. Learn what dental bridges are and why they can be a great choice. What Are Dental Bridges? A dental bridge is a device that covers the gap between two healthy teeth that have one or more missing teeth in the middle. The most common type of dental bridge rests on two crowns on either side of the gap, which hold up a false tooth. Dentists call this false tooth a “pontic.” But there are many different options besides traditional fixed bridges, including: Maryland bridges Cantilever bridges Implant-supported bridges Dental Bridges in East Longmeadow, MAMaryland bridges can be a good option for those who have missing front teeth. They are supported by a metal framework with wings that bond to existing teeth, making them less visible when you smile. Cantilever bridges are similar to traditional bridges, but they require only one crown to hold the false tooth in place. One of the most stable and long-lasting dental bridges, however, is the implant-supported bridge. Instead of being secured by crowns, an implant-supported bridge is attached to a dental implant to hold the false teeth. Dental implants are titanium posts that function like tooth roots and screw into your jaw. At East Longmeadow Family Dental Center, Dr. Gregory Zirakian provides implant-supported dental bridges using mini dental implants. The best candidates for this type of dental bridge are people who are in good overall health, who have many missing teeth, and who have some jawbone density left at the treatment areas. Benefits of Implant-Supported Dental Bridges Implant-supported dental bridges help prevent jawbone loss. To produce bone cells, your jawbone relies on the stimulation it receives from the roots of your teeth. When you lose a tooth, that stimulation disappears, leading to bone loss. But like a tooth root, a dental implant will stimulate the bone. Implant-supported dental bridges offer the stability of a traditional bridge without affecting nearby teeth. To fit crowns over the teeth that will support the pontic, Dr. Zirakian would have to shave off a lot of enamel, but that is not necessary with an implant-supported bridge. Implant-supported dental bridges allow you to replace many teeth at the same time, even if you don’t have healthy teeth next to the gaps you want to bridge. At East Longmeadow Family Dental Center, we place mini dental implants. These smaller implants are faster to set in place and do not require as much bone density as standard implants. This option can save you the time and expense of a bone grafting procedure.

  • Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are one of the most common restorative procedures in dental offices, offering the chance to prevent further damage to a tooth and enjoy full use of your bite once again. When teeth are severely damaged, implant-supported crowns can take their place. In fact, every year in the United States, 2.3 million implant supported-crowns are made to replace damaged teeth. When your teeth are damaged, you may struggle to eat the foods you love and feel self-conscious about sharing your smile. If you have a damaged tooth, turn to Gregory Zirakian, DMD, at East Longmeadow Family Dental Center, to find out whether dental crowns are the right option for your smile. What Are Dental Crowns? Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that fit over damaged teeth, covering them completely. To put them in place, Dr. Zirakian removes a bit of your enamel, allowing the crowns to bond to your natural teeth. Dental Crowns East Longmeadow Dental Cosmetic Dentist MADental crowns can help: Protect a cracked tooth Support a weak tooth Cover a dental implant Cover a tooth treated by a root canal Cover a stained tooth Hold a dental bridge in place If you do not have enough of the tooth left to support the crown, or if you have gum disease or other oral health issues, Dr. Zirakian may recommend other options to fit your unique needs. Types of Dental Crowns Various types of dental crowns are available. The type best suited for your smile can depend on your budget and personal preference. Metal Crowns Metal crowns are made of different types of materials, including: Gold Nickel Chromium Palladium Metal dental crowns last the longest and rarely crack or chip. They also require the least amount of enamel removal. Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal Crowns Porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns offer the durability of metal with the natural look of porcelain, making them ideal options for both front and back teeth. Dr. Zirakian can match these crowns to the exact tone of your natural teeth. Porcelain Crowns Porcelain dental crowns can mimic the look of a natural tooth better than other types of dental crowns. They can also be the best choice for those who have metal allergies.

  • Full & Partial Dentures

More than 36 million Americans don’t have any teeth left. When you’re missing teeth, you may be unable to enjoy your favorite foods, struggle to speak correctly, and feel self-conscious about smiling. At East Longmeadow Family Dental Center, we understand how missing teeth can affect your confidence and your quality of life. Fortunately, for many people missing all or most of their teeth, dentures provide an excellent solution. Whether you prefer traditional dentures or implant-retained dentures, you can find the option that best suits your needs from Dr. Zirakian at East Longmeadow Family Dental Center. What Are Dentures? Dentures are dental appliances that help replace missing teeth. There are different types of dentures, including: Full dentures Partial dentures Implant-retained dentures Implant-supported dentures Full dentures, also called complete dentures, are appliances that help replace a whole arch of missing teeth. Full dentures sit on your gums and rely on them for support. Some people also require denture adhesive to keep the appliance in place. Full & Partial Dentures in East Longmeadow, MAPartial dentures are similar to full dentures in that they rely on your gums, but they also have clasps that hook around your remaining natural teeth. They are more stable than traditional options. Implant-retained dentures are dentures that snap onto dental implants, offering more stability than traditional dentures. They are removable, letting you take them out each night. On the other hand, implant-supported dentures, also called permanent dentures, also rely on dental implants, but only your dentist can remove them. At East Longmeadow Family Dental Center, Dr. Gregory Zirakian often recommends dentures that rely on mini dental implants. Benefits of Implant-Retained Dentures Implant-retained dentures can help you avoid further jawbone loss. When you lose teeth, the tooth roots are no longer there to stimulate the jawbone, resulting in bone loss. Because dental implants function like the roots of teeth, they can offer that stimulation. Implant-retained dentures are much more stable than standard dentures. The implants are fixed to your jaw, and the denture snaps onto those implants, allowing you to chew and speak without fear. You also don’t have to worry about messy adhesives. Traditional dentures can stop fitting as comfortably over time, leading to the development of sores and other issues where the device rubs against your gums. Implant-retained dentures, however, are much more comfortable.

  • Mini Dental Implants

An estimated 3 million people in the United States have at least one dental implant. Although standard dental implants can offer many benefits, more people are turning to mini dental implants. Learn why Gregory Zirakian, DMD, of East Longmeadow Family Dental Center recommends mini dental implants. What Are Mini Dental Implants? Dental implants are structures that function like tooth roots. They are titanium posts that fit securely into your jaw or gums and attach to a false tooth. Mini_Dental_Implants_in_East_Longmeadow__MAStandard dental implants consist of a titanium post and an abutment that connects the post to the false tooth. This structure requires a lot of space and substantial jawbone density. Mini dental implants, on the other hand, do not need an abutment, which makes them a better option for those who do not have much bone density left in the area. Generally, mini dental implants are about 3 millimeters in diameter and screw directly into your jawbone. The best candidates for mini dental implants are people who: Are in good overall health Are not eligible for or do not want standard implants Have some jawbone density If you have lost a tooth to decay or injury, mini dental implants can help you regain the full use of your bite. Benefits of Mini Dental Implants Mini dental implants are small enough that even if you have had significant jawbone loss, they can still be a viable option. Jawbone loss occurs when your jawbone no longer receives the stimulation it needs from tooth roots after you lose a tooth. If you have a limited amount of bone density in the area, getting a standard dental implant can require a bone grafting procedure. Not only is this more expensive, but it also means waiting weeks before you can receive the implant. Mini dental implants do not require as much bone density because they are smaller, so you do not have to worry about bone grafting procedures. Because the procedure for placing mini dental implants is faster and less complex than standard implants, you can expect your treatment to be more affordable. Mini_Dental_Implants_in_East_Longmeadow__MAPlacing mini dental implants is also less invasive than placing standard dental implants. You can expect a faster recovery time because there are no incisions to care for. Mini dental implants are smaller than standard implants, so they can be a good choice for areas in your jaw where space is limited. And unlike traditional dentures, mini dental implants allow you to chew hard foods without worrying about the implants shifting.

  • Dental Implants

An estimated 120 million people in the United States are missing at least one tooth. When you have missing teeth, you may feel embarrassed or self-conscious, and eating your favorite foods can become difficult or impossible. Fortunately, with modern dentistry, you don’t have to continue to suffer the issues missing teeth can cause. Dental implants can restore both the function and look of your smile so that you can live confidently again. If you have lost a tooth, Gregory Zirakian, DMD, at East Longmeadow Family Dental Center offers standard and mini dental implants. What Are Dental Implants? Dental Implants in East Longmeadow, MA Dental implants are artificial structures that replace missing teeth. Standard dental implants consist of a titanium post embedded into your jawbone, on which a false tooth can be placed. Standard dental implants use an abutment to hold the false tooth, while mini dental implants do not require this extra piece. Dental implants can be an ideal option for people who have lost teeth because of: Tooth decay Gum disease Tooth root fracture Facial injury Standard dental implants require more jawbone density than mini dental implants, so if you have suffered bone loss because of your missing tooth, mini implants can be the better option. The best candidates for dental implants are people who are healthy enough for a surgical procedure and who have a good oral hygiene routine. Benefits of Dental Implants Dental implants can help prevent further jawbone loss. Your jawbone depends on the roots of your teeth to receive the stimulation it needs to keep creating bone cells. When you lose a tooth, the root is no longer there to provide that stimulation, leading to bone loss in your jaw. Because dental implants function like a tooth’s root, they can help you maintain jawbone density. Dental implants also provide more stability than dentures if you need to replace many of your teeth. Dentures can slip despite the use of adhesives, making it impossible to enjoy some of your favorite foods and in some instances, even affecting your speech. Dental Implants in East Longmeadow, MA With dental implants, you can eat foods like steak and corn on the cob confidently and speak with ease. You can stabilize dentures with implants as well. With a few implants in place, you can enjoy full or partial dentures without the worry of dealing with adhesives. And unlike getting dental bridges or crowns, dental implants do not require the removal of any enamel from neighboring teeth. Dental implants offer a natural look and a perfect fit while also letting you use the full force of your jaw to chew.
